2 tablespoons of Vinegar
50 grams of Lard
1 teaspoon of Salt
1 cup of Warm water
1 cup of Cornstarch
1 teaspoon of Baking powder

Step 1 : To prepare the pasteles, start by sifting the flour and salt.
Step 2 : Then, place the egg, softened lard, vinegar, and enough warm water in the center to form a tender dough.
Step 3 : Knead the mixture well and punch it to ensure a uniform texture.
Step 4 : Wrap the resulting dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for at least one hour.
Step 5 : Once the resting time has passed, roll out the dough very thinly and brush with oil.
Step 6 : Subsequently, sprinkle with cornstarch and baking powder using a sifter.
Step 7 : Then, fold the dough and overlay the roll in three parts before rolling it out again.
Step 8 : This way, you can cut the dough into book-shaped or triangle-shaped pieces, depending on your preference.
Step 9 : Fill the pastries with the sweet filling and fry them in hot oil until golden and crispy.
Step 10 : When removing from the oil, place them on absorbent paper to remove excess fat.
Step 11 : Finally, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving, achieving a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.
